GS ready for everything. Be spontaneous, dont be violent nor cruel. Never a danger to children, if from good origin. Yes they need activity, they bark and herd, and will govern you to the minute. Seniors think twice because they demand exercise.

I adopted/rescued a working line GSD years ago and I went to the library to get books on them. I found a book written by a Canadian Police Dog trainer and it was very helpful. One of the chapters was about some people using GSDs as gold 'detectors'. It looked pretty silly to me, but I called my dog over and held my hand out, knuckles up, and let her sniff my wedding ring. In seconds, she began to drool as if a small tap in her mouth had been turned on and she very gently nibbled at my gold ring with her front teeth. I don't think she would have stopped if I hadn't taken my hand away. Has anyone else had this happen? Try it and see and maybe let me know. Thanks 😊

If you owe a gsd for life. Tou are the luvky guy or girl.The dog is smarter than you think. The dog is quiet unless you (the owner) teach it how to bark( sing). The dog can learn the trick faster than you think. The dog is very lovely, royal, smart and willing to learn new tricks.

Gyp loves to lead . She stops and looks back to see where I am . She enjoys feeding the chickens ,ducks and turtles . 112 pound 2 year old female .

I have had 3 German Sheppard's so far, the last one lived to be 13 years old and he was the biggest softy I have ever had. I had to bury him on my property Jan 25 2024. I told everyone that that was enough, I was done. Last week a young couple who have 3 dogs and a newborn got hold of me to ask if I would take their 7 month old female they got when she was a puppy. They did not know the breed and she was getting aggressive with everyone and everything. I have been working with her every day, and she reminded me what I have been missing. She is super smart and super protective. This breed is not one that can be left alone in a cage or apartment for hours while people work. This one will be saved and for the next 10+ years she will have a good home and support and constant training. Best dogs in the world, but can also be your worst nightmare if you don't have the time for them.

I would say it is a nice 5 rules, a friend of mine is being pressured by her 8 years son to get a ragdoll cat.. being a father and mother for 2 sweet ragdolls, orphaned by a cat that has disappeared some 15 years ago, a 13 years old dog that was killed by robbers, I would say it for people thinking of a ragdoll or any breed, always take two.. it is a life time experience, think of yourself in a private prison cell.. take care of them, they are family.

Advocation isn’t toxic, the skin is toxic. Table scraps are not harmful as long as they are not harmful food that dogs cannot have like grapes etc. As long as the dog is not over fed they will not get fat. Rare quality protein food is very good for dogs and in fact the best. Not kibble which is terrible.

As a beagle owner: it's true that many beagles develop obesity and epilepsy. My beagle has had obesity, but lost weight, especially after her first epileptic attacks. Also, they are prone to hearing loss. My beagle is deaf by now.

Jordie the NFC was a great snuggle bug and a neighborhood celebrity. He was a beast who one time set off the security alarm across the alley. He ran into the house, we didn’t know why. Then the police and fire department showed up. We had no idea what was happening until he stayed in the basement for three days. Laughed our head off. He passed away suddenly from a heart attack. I miss him so much.

The breed requires especially when young. All dog slow down with age and need a retirement lifestyle.

My current GSD is 18 months old. Yes, he can be challenging at times but he is perfectly socialized and does NOT have a mean bone in his body. I made mistakes during his puppy months and so, sometimes he seems cautious around me. For the previous month, I've been back on track and aside from looking for other dogs to play with, he's just great!!! I refuse to use a prong or ecollar or choke collar - he has a flat collar and harnesses. For jumping and nipping which I wish he'd stop, I just starting using the "air compressed pet corrector" which gives off a loud hiss ( like Cesar Milan). It seems to be REALLY effective so we're on to something really excellent for the "worst" behaviour ( when he gets really excited, he jumps and "nips" people - he's TOO big for this so I have to put an end to it - and until I watched Will Atherton ( A FANTASTIC trainer in the UK and on UA-cam) I didn't know how "corrector" worked......I also follow many of Will Atherton's training advice - well worth it if you have a GSD and you need 'support!!"

It has long been proven that neutering is not a solution for aggression. I've had two males in my life over 26 years, and I would not neuter either one. They were my angels. Stop this nonsense about castrating males.

They are demanding. Will demand your love and dedication full time. And will give the same to you. Be strong and ready to have one. Seniors in my opinion should go for less active breeds.

My daughter has one, notice losing hair. Possible BSD. Her pigment skin is a dark color, not pink the way it should be. Vet told her melatonin and fish oil, going to run test on her first.

I have had 5 GSD'S. Wonderful breed. They are a full time job. But if you can do it, it is so rewarding to have such an awesome friend! Gunner is 9 and slowing down. I would love to have a 6th one but age and health are now my concern. Life would really suck without a GSD.

I live Bali, a hot climate and not the place for a husky. I have 3 local dog rescues and 4 months ago I rescued a 1 1/2 yr old SIberian husky. She was tied up 24/7 in the heat, so skinny and full of wounds with maggots and staph infections in her ears. Took a couple of months to get her healthy but she is so lovely. While more work than my local dogs, she is lengthening my life from the daily walks she requires :) I've ordered a harness and going to get her to pull me up the hill below my home a few times before I walk her so she's a little tired first :)

My GSD is so sweet. Love her. I rarely needed to leave her alone much but recently ..... It's hard for her. i take her for her loved long walks weather permitting. I play hide seek and chase her around the house. When weather bad. She is getting older now but she is great. We are best friends. I rub her neck and tell her good night at bedtime she seems to like it.

I have 4 GSD they can get even bigger like 125+# for male and 85#+ for females. But can't get a better dog. And yes VERY!!! protective. I trip and fell my older male reacted when mine son came to help me up. They don't play when it comes to their masters

I`m 60 years old and have had doxies my whole life. They are a wonderful loyal breed. All of mine were easy to train. Their personalities are off the charts. They will make you laugh, And at the end of the day it`s cuddle time. Mine love to lay on the couch with me and relax. When they are ready for bed they go on their own to their beds. Morning comes and they are coming into the bedroom waking me up for their breakfast. Awesome little dogs.

I still have two questions: First, would it be ok to use a husky as a quote unquote motor for your bicycle or kick scooter on a daily basis ? I know it's a thing called urban mushing however is it humane or cruel to do it often and without pedaling on the bike for example ? Second question, what is bad quality food in the case of huskies ? Is meat and bones from the butcher's ok or not ? Thank's !
